I would never have believed it if I didn’t see it. The community is actually coming together and everybody is having FUN in between all the work. We’ve got our annual 4th of July parade that the Rotary club has been running forever. The 4th of July fireworks, even though there are problems with the financing, it is going to happen. The fireworks company believes in us and we’re not going to let them down.
The Honorary Mayor’s race got off to a slow start, but it is picking up momentum as people rally around their favorite service organization or candidate.
You can actually feel the excitement when you talk to people. People are actually enjoying themselves again and putting aside petty differences. Yes boys & girls, we’re going to be partying down with mixers, pancake fundraisers and just good old hand shaking. And the best part of it all, is that we all benefit.
Candidates sell tickets (votes) and at the end, all the proceeds are divided between the sponsoring organization and the S-T Chamber of Commerce. It’s really a win-win-win situation.
Every year we have more and more people showing up for the Rotary Club 4th of July parade and every year EVERYBODY has fun. This year is no exception, but there will be one subtle difference, there will be more police along the parade route. Some people just can’t have fun without hurting others. Throwing water balloons at people is fun unless you are all dressed up in your costume or are a dignitary sitting precariously on the back of a classic automobile. Now that’s not fun.
But it’s like getting ready for a birthday party. And getting your vehicle ready for that 3 mile run down Foothill Blvd. is part of the fun. Horses, motorcycles, marchers, and just plain people letting their hair down. Make sure that you have your picnic hampers filled with cold water or beverages, it’s going to be hot.
Happy Birthday America, and you brought your own water!
