Sonny, owner of Harmony Farms, located at 2824 Foothill Blvd, La Crescenta, CA, summed it all up. The home is where the heart is. He loves being at work and doing what he does. It shows in his work, his chipper attitude and his customer service. Originally from Durango, Mexico, Sonny epitomizes the American dream. Sonny, Felipe Cabrales, began his career in 1976 at the Schreiner’s House. In addition to his full time job, in 1979, he worked for Bruce Oxford at Harmony Farms, opened since 1972.

Having to leave Schriener’s, Sonny eventually moved up to be in charge of the produce room. On April 1, 1997, Sonny took over the entire business. This is a family worked business including Sonny, his uncle, brother and his oldest son. All in all Harmony Farms employs nine.

What is the biggest challenge working with family? Occasionally a family member may not show up, or may come in late. But overall Sonny feels it is beneficial working alongside family. They watch out for the business.

It is a pretty hopping place too. The USDA inspects the place every day, Monday through Friday. Then they have beef delivered about once a week, add onto that poultry, turkey, etc., three or more times a week. There were a steady stream of retail customers in and out while Sonny and I spoke. Have you experienced premium Australian “Kobe Style” Wagyu Beef? Yum!

Harmony Farms specializes in organic and exotic meats, pretty much whatever you are looking for. And Sonny has not forgotten about your pets, providing them a raw diet.

They now offer a new service: you can hunt and Harmony Farms custom processes your animal. Wild boar, deer — they take care of it for you. And check out renting a locker!

The hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturdays/Sundays from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
